EFL Teachers-Yemen

Job presentation
Under the supervision of the Academic Coordinator, the English Teacher Intern teaches English as a Second/Foreign Language to adults and teenagers (students under 18 are only admitted during summer sessions), prepares lessons, assigns and corrects homework, scores classroom exams, evaluates student progress and assigns end of term grades to each student fairly and objectively. As well, s/he works individually with students as needed and collaborates frequently and routinely with other teachers to ensure state-of-the-art teaching methodology and creative activities. The English Teacher Intern l also benefits from pre-and in-service training workshops.
Summary of Responsibilities
• Teaches English courses following established YALI guidelines and using acceptable communicative language teaching strategies and methodologies. Maintains a classroom environment that is conducive to optimal learning. (50-75%)
• Monitors, assesses, and evaluates student work and progress. (10-15%)
• Participates in teacher training workshops and other developmental activities designed to enhance the quality of teaching and participates in the delivery of such training. (5-10%)
• Prepares reports and lessons plans, supplemental materials and activities, quizzes as required. Maintains an up-to-date record of lesson plans, student attendance and grade records, according to YALI procedures. (5%)
• Contributes to the curriculum and test development activities, as directed. (0-20%)
• Assists in miscellaneous administrative duties related to the effective operation of a language institute. (0-5%)
• Serves as a resource to new and less experienced instructors in developing their teaching skills and as a resource on the English language and American culture to all instructors who are not native speakers or who are less familiar with American culture. (5-10%)
Qualifications and desirable skills
• A degree (BA desired) in EFL/TEFL/English Literature or related/relevant field
• EFL teaching experience and/or EFL certification
• Flexibility to work in a diverse and multicultural work environment
• Great organizational and multi-tasking skills, ability to work under pressure
• Excellent oral and written English language skills
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs and computer usage
• Only American nationals will be considered for this position
Compensation
• 2 hours of private Arabic language instruction, 5 days per week
• Monthly stipend of $300, to be paid in cash at the end of each month
• Monthly transportation allowance of $50
• Housing accommodation for the duration of the internship with the YCMES
• Plane ticket reimbursed with completion of a one-year contract
• Official TOEFL certification through 3rd party tester in Sana’a
• Visa and all visa extensions in Yemen
• Use of YCMES services, such as airport pickup (upon first arrival and final departure), laundry, internet, etc.
• Facilitated travel within Yemen and cultural activities as offered by the YCMES
