Advocacy Specialist - Qatar Foundation - Doha - Qatar

The Advocacy Specialist will design and oversee implementation of a comprehensive advocacy strategy for ROTA in support of the organization’s work mission and strategic objectives. The Specialist will consult with ROTA staff and partners to identify priorities for advocacy and will propose an agenda and plans to be approved by the Director. S/he will work in cooperation with the technical, program, partnership, communications, and marketing teams in ROTA to ensure that advocacy efforts support and are supported by ROTA’s work across the organization.

Detailed Description:
• Plan and carry out a thorough assessment to identify and prioritize possible advocacy topics and campaigns
• Achieve buy-in from ROTA staff and approval from the Director for proposed advocacy priorities.
• Develop a comprehensive advocacy strategy for ROTA, clearly defining campaign objectives, timelines, audience, messaging, partners and implementation mechanisms. The strategy should be accompanied by a plan for evaluating the success of campaigns
• In cooperation with the Research Specialist and Communications team, gather background research and develop communications materials that support ROTA advocacy efforts.
• Cooperate with Community Development program staff to implement awareness-raising and engagement activities for the public in Qatar.
• Cooperate with ROTAsia program staff to pursue advocacy at the field level where ROTA implements programs.
• Work with the Partnerships team to engage celebrities in advocacy campaigns.
• Provide support to enable the Chairperson, Director and/or Senior Program Manager in carrying out advocacy work, as needed.
• Take the lead in developing strategic and operational plans for ROTA’s advocacy work and produce regular reports on ROTA’s advocacy efforts.
• Educational Qualifications: Masters Degree in relevant field of study
• Experience: Minimum 3 years experience designing and implementing advocacy campaigns. Experience working with international humanitarian and development organizations and demonstrated knowledge of issues pertaining to education in crisis.
• Professionalism: Strong commitment to ROTA’s vision, mission and values. Sound knowledge of and exposure to a range of international organizations, to include approaches and techniques to address difficult problems; ability to identify issues and to use sound judgment in applying expertise and experience to resolve a wide range of problems; strong research skills, including ability to evaluate and integrate information from a variety of sources; ability to provide guidance to new and existing staff.
• Communications: Excellent English communications (spoken and written) skills and practices, including the ability to draft/edit a variety of written reports and communications and to articulate ideas in a confident, clear and concise style and to communicate effectively via electronic methods such as email and video conferencing. Arabic skills are an added benefit.
• Planning & Organizing: Must have the ability to plan work, manage conflicting priorities and work under pressure of tight and conflicting deadlines. Ability to facilitate meetings and workshops.
